Hello!

I thought I'd share a recently released research brief from IES that
might be of interest to some subscribers. The study looks at
participation of adults with different levels of education in formal
learning activities offered through the formal education system, at the
workplace, or by other organizations. The focus of the study is on
adults with lower levels of education as compared to adults with higher
levels of education, rates of participation in formal learning, and to
what extent each group pays out-of-pocket for formal learning for work
and for personal interest.

Among other things, this got me to thinking about teacher professional
development.

How often do you pursue formal learning activities for your work? If you
pay for formal learning, what are the driving factors for you to sign
up?

If the PD offering is free (free from the provider or paid for by your
workplace), how do you perceive its value? If it's not free, how much
($$) is too much? Time is another cost. So what's the right balance for
you?

Thanks for your thoughts...

Jackie
