AALPD Professional Development Colleagues,

 

This year we have had nearly 450 individuals join or renew membership
during the AALPD Membership Drive. (In contrast each year approximately
280 join during the drive and 350 join by year's end!) AALPD is now
represented among 45 states in addition to several countries and one
territory. Thank you to all who spread the word to states, professional
development centers, community-based organizations, coalitions, and
other venues and who joined or renewed membership.

 

AALPD is an entirely volunteer-run organization and it is that energy
and enthusiasm that will move AALPD forward. We have an opportunity to
advance professional development in several areas: through PD programs,
research, standards and PD systems-building, resources for professional
developers, advocacy, and more. 

 

Several members have expressed an interest in leadership by volunteering
to be a part of a committee over a priority area for AALPD. Over the
next few weeks, AALPD will follow up with you to learn of your specific
interest in the committee of your choice. I look forward to each of us
finding ways to contribute our time, energy, or insights in whatever
ways each individual's circumstance will permit.

 

Over the next several months, I also invite everyone on this discussion
list into conversations about the issues that concern us in adult
literacy professional development, what we envision for AALPD, and ways
we can organize to bring about change.
