And, Myles Horton and Paulo Freire dialog in the book, “We Make the Road by Walking It” about how education is discovery, (“without practice, there is no knowledge”), and active and personal.

Real education is when students are discovering themselves, who they are and what they want. Education happens when they read their own life stories and not the stories that others concoct for them.

Highlander let young Blacks in the1960s learn their own stories in counterpoint to the racist stories of Steppin’ Fetch, Amos and Andy, Buckwheat, and Rochester, Jack Benny’s butler.
