We've all seen those qualities that make someone an outstanding leader,
whether in business, education, or social services. I believe advocacy is
one of the attributes that makes a leader great. You must be an advocate
for your organization, your mission, your program, and your people, both
employees and clients. A stalwart supporter will seek avenues that are
beneficial to the goal and the people, and will also prioritize those
avenues that benefit his or her organization and people most.

Another primary attribute of a great leader is the ability to embrace change
that is for the benefit of the organization and people. Leading through
change is a difficult challenge, akin to walking a tightrope while
attempting collaboration among disparate entities on either side of the
balance pole.

A leader must always display, and unconditionally believe in, ethical and
fair relationships. Communicating clearly to everyone involved is only
fair. Respect for others and rule of law is ethical behavior. Virtually
every decision or situation involves the leader's belief in ethical and fair
behaviors and relationships.

I am very new to Adult Education, and have very impressed with the essays
posted. I feel I have a bountiful fount of AE-related information. If you
have alternatives to specific issues I might raise in the future, I would
very much appreciate hearing from you.
