I am very fortunate to have an informal mentor. Zoe Renfro engaged me six years ago by asking me to assist with setting up computers for a new adult high school, and then asked me to work in the computer lab for a few hours each week. In a very short period of time, Zoe engaged me in projects that expanded my knowledge base of AE philosophies and procedures. I was already an advocate for adult learners; this mentoring process developed the skills and confidence to move into AE full-time.
Zoe is still my mentor, friend, confidante and boss. She and I make a practice of meeting briefly but regularly to discuss our personal and professional lives. I appreciate the professional opportunities she has afforded me and I genuinely value her friendship.
