Colleagues,

As you may know from reading the announcement posted last Friday, and
copied below, the Special Topics and the Family Literacy discussion
lists are coming to a close at the end of this month. The National
Institute for Literacy is redesigning some of the current lists, and
adding new lists, aligned to its Resource Collections. This discussion
list (originally designed by former NIFL staff to cover a range of
topics not covered by its other discussion lists) does not align to a
resource collection, so it is being eliminated.

I want to thank the many guest experts and active participants who have
contributed to the eighteen lively and informative discussions held here
since 2006. I understand that the discussions will continue to be
archived, at

through next year, when the Institute itself will close.Some of the
discussions are also archived on the Adult Literacy Education Wiki

I also want to thank the current and past staff at the National
Institute for Literacy for inviting me to host this discussion list and
for their support for this and all the discussion lists. I especially
want to thank past NIFL staff member Jaleh Behroozi Soroui, who created
the discussion lists  (I think in 1995) as part of the NIFL Literacy
Information and Communications System (LINCS), Jo Maralit, who provided
able leadership to the discussion lists for several years after Jaleh,
B. Denise Hawkins, who continued after Jo, and Connie Harich, who has
for many years provided the discussion lists and the moderators with
superb technical support.

Although you are subscribed to this list now, you will not need to
unsubscribe, as everyone will be unsubscribed after September 30th.

It has been a pleasure to moderate the Special Topics discussion list. I
have learned a great deal from guest panelists and from participants.  I
hope that you have found the discussions worthwhile.
