Good evening David:
So many people in the adult education field owe you, David, thanks for your multiple kinds of mentoring so many of us and for so many expressions of leadership in nudging the profession forward. We met years ago in working for more funding for adult education, again in advocating for MassInc to recognize the importance of literacy in workforce education and in your Adult Literacy Resource Institute's mini-grants program. Each time and place we met, your kindness in introducing advocacy positions and making suggestions demonstrated your thoughtful concern for the field. You always were receptive to the ideas and feelings of others. And always enthusaistic about the profession.
Thanks for the opportunity to be on the panel of one of your SpecialTopics discussions. This SpecialTopics discussion too has been a wonderful leadership and mentoring device for many of us. Best wishes in all your endeavors, Peg

Subject: [SpecialTopics 1446] Close of the Special Topics Discussion List
Colleagues,
As you may know from reading the
announcement posted last Friday, and copied below, the Special Topics and the
Family Literacy discussion lists are coming to a close at the end of this month.
The National Institute for Literacy is redesigning some of0the current
lists, and adding new lists, aligned to its Resource Collections. This
discussion list (originally designed by former NIFL staff to cover a range of
topics not covered by its other discussion lists) does not align to a resource
collection, so it is being eliminated.
I want to thank the many guest
experts and active participants who have contributed to the eighteen lively and
informative discussions held here since 2006. I understand that the
discussions will continue to be archived, at
http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/discussions/list_archives.html at least through next year, when the Institute itself will
close.Some of the
discussions are also archived on the Adult Literacy
Education Wiki http://wiki.literacytent.org .
Here's a list of the Special Topics discussions for those who might care to
visit/re-visit them:

I also want to thank the current
and past staff at the National Institute for Literacy for inviting me to host
this discussion list and for their support for this and all the discussion
lists. I especially want to thank past NIFL staff member Jaleh Behroozi Soroui,
who created the discussion lists (I think in 1995) as part of the NIFL
Literacy Information and Communications System (LINCS), Jo Maralit, who provided
able leadership to the discussion lists for several years after Jaleh, B. Denise
Hawkins, who continued after Jo, and Connie Harich, who has for many years
provided the discussion lists and the moderators with superb technical
support.
Although you are subscribed to this list now, you will not need
to unsubscribe, as everyone will be unsubscribed after September 30th.
It
has been a pleasure to moderate the Special Topics discussion list. I have
learned a great deal from guest panelists and from participants. I hope
that you have found the discussions worthwhile.
David J. Rosen
Special
Topics Discussion Moderator (through September 30th when I virtually turn off
the lights and close the door)

> Dear Discussion List Subscribers:

As the Institute enters a new fiscal year October 1 and a new phase in
