David:

At this eleventh hour I want to add to this wonderful discussion you’ve led
on leadership.

*Leadership is about loving life, courageously transforming circumstances in
our fields and careers that cause despair, grief and pessimism, into
opportunities for learning with one another and caring for our learners more
comprehensively.. I’ve seen you, David, do this time and again at the
local, state and national levels.

A book that challenges despair is Collapse by Jared Diamond.

A book that challenges our careers is Five Minds for the Future by Howard
Gardner.

*Leadership is about being bold in the face of the economy, the under
funding of adult education and workforce training and designing and putting
into practice the formation of collaborative communities of practice and
advocacy as the Pennsylvania educators in PAACE.

*Leadership is designing the future.

To that end, I propose these readings:

Modeling and Role-Modeling, A Theory and Paradigm for Nursing, Erickson,
Tomlin and Swain, The R.I. Bryan Co, 1988.

Healing the Whole Person, by Robert B. Mc Neilly John Wiley and Sons, 2000

Language and the Pursuit of Happiness, by Chalmer Brothers. New
Possibilities Press, Naples Florida, 2005
