Greetings, colleagues!

I'm hoping that some of you can provide a fresh perspective on what is a
continuing problem for us. In our department, we are regularly asked to
deliver 'orientation to online learning' sessions for students beginning
online programs. We find, in general, that students adapt to the online
classroom quite readily. However, students with low levels of
technological literacy often have a very difficult time learning how to
save, manage, and retrieve files on their computers. This is an
essential skill because students are often required to complete their
homework using a word processing program, then upload their document to
the online class environment.

We have tried a variety of approaches and exercises to help our students
learn to manage their files effectively. Nevertheless, here we are
again: having just finished another orientation to online learning
session, we find ourselves spending HOURS on the phone attempting to
help desperate students scout around for a critical homework file.

Has anyone else out there faced this problem & found an approach that
works????

Thanks in advance,
Gina
