Here's a wonderful opportunity to explore topics in E-learning for teachers. I hope you'll be able to join us! - D **************************************************************************************************************** The Education Alliance at Brown University would like to invite you to an e-meeting on March 2 to discuss the findings of three studies we recently completed dealing with online learning among teachers and instructional coaches. These studies focused on the development of effective tools and strategies to support professional learning about elementary mathematics and adolescent literacy instruction. Reports on the studies are available free-of-charge online as pdf documents (URLs below) and in single print copies while supplies last. (Send a request to info at alliance.brown.edu.) We invite you to review these studies and to share them among your staff and colleagues. The e-meeting on March 2, from 3 to 4:30 pm ET, will allow for informal discussion of the work described in these reports. We believe that our efforts to understand how to design and evaluate online professional development activities have implications for other e-learning initiatives underway in your regions. We would welcome an opportunity to explore these implications with you and to hear about how you are evaluating the effectiveness of your own e-learning professional development efforts. We invite you to register for the e-meeting by going to http://www.alliance.brown.edu/events/webtours. Registration is required in order to receive the e-meeting directions and URL. We encourage you to invite others who would find this discussion useful. For further information on the studies, or if you have questions about this e-meeting invitation, please email Stephanie_Feger at brown.edu. We look forward to collaborating with you online. The Education Alliance's E-Learning Development Team ******************************************************************* The studies that will be discussed are as follows: Gauging and Improving Interactions in Online Seminars for Mathematics Coaches http://www.alliance.brown.edu/db/ea_catalog.php?search_calc=d10426 This study examined the quality of peer-to-peer interaction in an online seminar that engaged coaches from across the country. The Role of Facilitation in Online Professional Development: Engendering Co-construction of Knowledge http://www.alliance.brown.edu/db/ea_catalog.php?search_calc=d10425 This study explored the facilitation strategies used to foster collaboration and mathematical inquiry among participants in an online seminar. Both of the studies above were based on Investigations Online seminars for elementary school mathematics teachers implementing the Investigations in Data, Number, and Space curriculum. The papers describe the results of the studies and the design features of this model for online professional learning. Improving Online Collaborative Learning for Teachers: How Changes to Design Features of the Adolescent Literacy Collaboratory Influenced Participant Retention, Overall Satisfaction, and Engagement http://www.alliance.brown.edu/db/ea_catalog.php?search_calc=d10427 This paper describes the design features of the Adolescent Literacy in the Content Areas Collaboratory, a year-long professional development activity for teachers from various content areas: social studies, English/language arts, mathematics, and science. The authors discuss the results of changes in the design of the online activities between the first and second years of the Collaboratory. -- /\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\*/\ Mary Anne Mather, Program Planning Specialist The Education Alliance 222 Richmond Street, Suite 300 Providence, RI 02903-4226 Mary_Anne_Mather at brown.edu 401/274-9548 Ext. 315 Fax: 401-421-7650 The Education Alliance: http://www.alliance.brown.edu The Knowledge Loom: http://knowledgeloom.org -- -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
