Anything that has been discussed for other levels and age groups can be
adapted for adult learners whether or not you have one computer for a
whole class or one computer for every student. I suggest you join the
email discussion list by the name of TESLCA-L which is a branch of
another larger discussion list TESL-L (if you google "join TESLCA-L" you
will reach articles describing what to do) for lots of ideas and help
with integrating the use of computer assisted education in the realm of
ESL instruction. I'm sure there are also other discussion lists for
other subject areas. You might also google terms like "project-based
learning" because there are quite a few websites focused on using
computers for project work.

Some of the activities that I and others do on a regular basis with
adult ESL learners include using email, creating websites, taking
quizzes and tests online, writing stories and publishing them as
individual documents or as newsletters both in print and online,
creating graphs using Excel and delivering presentations in front of the
class using PowerPoint.

There are lots of websites that discuss approaches to teaching adults
who might not be familiar with using computer technology, basis computer
literacy skills starting from holding a mouse and naming parts of the
computer to step-by-step illustrated instructions for various projects.

Hi folks,

Following up on the discussion about lab set-ups, I wonder if
any of you have participated in or know about any projects for adult
learners that are based on one-computer per learner models - laptops or
PDAs, or maybe something I haven't thought of?

I've been reading about some of the many projects for middle
schoolers and wonder if/how this model might be applied to adult ed.

Thanks,

Deb Snow
