Hello: Here at the AlphaPlus Centre (an adult literacy resource centre in Toronto, Ontario) the exploration of Social Networking and the potential for using Web 2.0 tools is well underway This year we entered the blogosphere with the AlphaPlus Blog - Learning Outside the Lines http://blog.alphaplus.ca/ . Through the blog we are sharing and disseminating information about a range of issues, opportunities and activities in the adult literacy field - and we are finding that it is a very powerful way to connect and collaborate. We have connected with adult literacy bloggers in Canada, Australia , the U.S. and the U.K. We also created and presented 6 online workshops to English speaking Literacy and Basic Skills practitioners on the smart use of Web-based tools to engage learners in upgrading their literacy and employment skills - in the workshops we explored Social Networking tools such as blogs, social bookmarking sites, photo-sharing sites and participants had a chance to try out these tools and talk to each other about how they could be used in instruction - we had a very positive response from participants and are excited about the potential for these and similar tools to support onsite and distance learning and collaboration. We are planning to offer an expand version of workshops this year. You can visit the site we created at: http://www.atrainer.ca/etools/index.php We would love to hear from you on our blog and to hear what you think about our work in exploring Social Networking and Web 2.0 in the context of adult literacy.
