The Annual COABE conference is next week. Those who are interested in  
COABE Pre-conference and Conference Technology sessions, might want  
to know about these  two:

Pre-conference Afternoon Session

English under the Arches
Sponsored by: Adult Literacy and Technology Network (ALTN)
This session reports on a new model for language teaching, “English  
Under the Arches”, implemented in by McDonald’s in several of its  
restaurants,  made available to selected employees entirely on paid  
work time, and created and delivered in collaboration with adult  
education and ESL providers.  It combines virtual teaching, e- 
learning and face-to-face practice.  We will introduce promising  
approaches, report challenges and successes, and discuss wider  
implications for technology-mediated teaching. Learn about basic  
principles and promising practices in combining technology and  
language learning. Hear about a new collaboration between industry  
and community colleges.
