Hi all,
Some of your students maybe wondering what is happening in the
news financially.
Here are some resources that you may find helpful enough to use
in your class. Two are video based and the last two are audio podcasts of
This American Life radio show from NPR. The NPR clips also have a
downloadable
transcript that can be looked at while listening. Please review before
using, as I have
not listened to these all the way through. They come as recommendations
from collegues.
Note: They seem to be for higher level students due to vocabulary
and speed of delivery.
>From Charlie Herbert:
³They both are helpful for seeing the big house of cards that we're seeing
tumble around right now.
Also good examples of how low-tech, simple, and very low-key
presentation can be combined with 'hi-tech' to illustrate complex subjects.²

_________
>From Ren Volpe:
I¹'ve been reading everything I can about the economy, but Ira Glass does
the best job explaining what's going on. Listen to these 2 radio programs
for a thorough and understandable explanation of the current financial
meltdown. ³
You can listen online from NPR, or go to iTunes and download the podcasts
and listen on your iPod. It's worth listening to both of them, in sequential
order.
