Some learners (as well as teachers) may be interested in knowing that November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance. This is a day to remember those who were victims of hate crimes. According to NOW, only 7 states and DC have hate crime laws which includes crimes based on both sexual orientation and gender identity. Some possible activities for the classroom:
ESL/low level ABE Classes: Vocabulary work on words/phrases such as hate crimes, hate crime laws, sexual orientation, gender identity.
PreGED/GED level classes: Research which are the 7 states that are mentioned above.
