It is amazing that there is such a day of remembrance. Sometimes I am astonished about how progressive our society is in many respects, yet there is still room for improvement in just basic human kindness.

Some learners (as well as teachers) may be interested in knowing that November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance. This is a day to remember those who were victims of hate crimes. According to NOW, only 7 states and DC have hate crime laws which includes crimes based on both sexual orientation and gender identity. Some possible activities for the classroom:
ESL/low level ABE Classes: Vocabulary work on words/phrases such as hate crimes, hate crime laws, sexual orientation, gender identity.
PreGED/GED level classes: Research which are the 7 states that are mentioned above.
