FYI
ASTD Declares December 1st to be Employee Learning Day
To encourage leaders to renew their commitment to provide employee learning
that supports organizational results, ASTD is declaring Wednesday, December
1st as Employee Learning Day.
Tony Bingham, ASTD's president and CEO, reminds organizations to develop
employees' skills so they can succeed at their jobs. "Workforce development
is critical for organizational success, and business leaders must take
stock of their employee learning programs and measure them against best
practices in leading organizations," he states. "We hope that organizations
will take Employee Learning Dayand more days in the futureto celebrate
the growth of their employees' knowledge and skills as a prime contributor
to competitive advantage."
What can your organization do to recognize Employee Learning Day? Here are
some ideas:
· set up an on-site learning center with information about learning
opportunities within the organization and throughout the community
· encourage membership and involvement in a professional association
· inform employees about business-critical information so they
understand their role in the organization's future
· create individual development plans for employees, making sure that
learning is incorporated into all goals
· cross-train, or pair up employees and/or departments so they can
learn from each other.
