Panel members joining Meeder for the roundtable discussion will be: Tony
Zeiss, President, Central Piedmont Community College, North Carolina;
Robert Templin, President, Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia;
Charlene Nunley, President, Montgomery College, Maryland; and Patricia
Keir, Chancellor, Eastern Iowa Community College, Iowa.
Zeiss became the third president of Central Piedmont College in North
Carolina in 1992. During his tenure, the college has grown from one campus
to six and has become recognized as a national leader in workforce
development. He has authored or coauthored several books on economic
development, adult literacy, and national workforce development. Zeiss
holds a doctorate in community college administration, a master's degree in
speech (radio and television), and a bachelor's degree in speech education.
Templin serves as the fourth president of Northern Virginia Community
College, Virginia's largest institution of higher education, and the
nation's second-largest community college. Over the past 15 years,
Templin's work in workforce training, education, and economic development
has been featured in such publications as The Washington Post, USA Today,
and Fortune. He is the author of Virginia's comprehensive workforce
development plan and was instrumental in the creation of the "Blueprint for
Technology-Based Economic Growth in Virginia," a strategic plan that
outlines the steps Virginia should take to guide the state's emergence as a
leading technology state. Nunley became the sixth chief executive officer
of Montgomery College in 1999. Previously, she served as executive vice
president and chief administrative officer. Her distinguished career in
educational administration includes academic administration, planning,
finance, budgeting, and resource development. Nunley has served as
professor of business administration and economics, and as vice president
of planning and advancement, where she directed the college's first
multi-million-dollar capital campaign and secured matching funds from
Montgomery County. Her professional educational preparation includes a
doctorate from George Washington University in educational policy studies,
a master's degree in higher education, and a bachelor's degree from The
Pennsylvania State University Psychology Honors Program.
Keir has been chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community College District since
July 2004, after serving 5 years as president at San Diego Miramar College.
Prior to her tenure there, she was executive vice president and provost at
Lansing Community College in Michigan, and held administrative posts at
College of DuPage in Illinois.
Keir served as a member of the American Association of Community Colleges
(AACC) Task Force on Homeland Security, served on the AACC Commission on
Economic and Workforce Development, and is completing her term as president
of the American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows Program Council of
Fellows. She also serves on the boards of Community Colleges for
International Development (CCID) and the Partnership for Environmental
Technology Education (PETE). Keir places great emphasis on community
involvement, aggressively seeking out industry, community, political, and
educational leaders, and forming strong alliances and new partnerships to
serve community needs and improve learning experiences for students. She
earned her doctorate in adult and continuing education from Northern
Illinois University, master's degrees from Wayne State University and
Wesleyan University, and a bachelor's degree from Cornell University.
