Are you interested in learning how to create your own web
pages as an educational tool? Then the Compass Project live
web cast training is for you!

The Workforce Improvement Network at James Madison
University in Virginia is exploring the possibility of
offering its Compass Project training through the Internet
via a live web cast. The Compass Project teaches ESOL
instructors and tutors and adult educators how to use a
simple, web-based program to create web ages. This knowledge
can then be used as a learning tool to help master oral and
written English language skills. The project, funded through
an EL/Civics grant from the Virginia Department of
Education, was originally created for use in the ESOL
classroom, but is applicable for GED and basic skills
classes as well.

To see examples of web pages created by Compass Project
participants, go to http://compass.vawin.jmu.edu/.

Groups will be limited to five participants, and dates and
times will be determined based on interest. If you’re
interested ore would like more information, please send an
email to Pamela Brown at brownpg at jmu.edu, or call her at 540-
568-8797 or toll free at 888-637-8494. The web cast will be
scheduled as soon as possible if at least 5 people sign up;
additional sessions will be scheduled if necessary. Please
respond by March 1, 2005.
