The National Institute for Literacy, Partnership for Reading, Publications
Web page has a couple of resources that are of interest to adult education
instructors at:

For example, one is entitled Applying Research in Reading Instruction for
Adults: First Steps for Teachers. The author says the book "aims first to
build background knowledge about reading and scientifically based reading
instruction." The book is full of student and classroom illustrations and
sample instructional activities.

Another example is entitled Teaching Adults to Read. This booklet
"describes strategies proven to work by the most rigorous scientific
research available on the teaching of reading." It summarizes the trends and
principles identified in the 2002 publication Research-Based Principles for
Adult Basic Education Reading Instruction.
