[Workplace] Looking for Workplace ESL ROI researchBarry Baer barry.baer at comcast.netWed Mar 8 12:38:07 EST 2006
Hi: We have just completed a workplace ESL training program for healthcare environmental services workers. All the training was specific to their job. Such as: - Safety - Precautions - Cleaning Procedures - Customer Service - Employee Expectations We used the CASAS Workplace Speaking Assessment to measure gains. Our preliminary research was that it would take 100 hours of training for a 1 level gain. On average that equates to 10% +/- for the levels the workers are in. The workers showed a 2.9% - 5.8% gain in 24 hours of training. This can translate into hard cost savings and/or or efficiencies: - Training results delivered in 25% of the time. Take the cost of a training program and divide it by 4. - Workers are only in training 25% of the time. Take the cost per hour of a worker, multiple by the hours of training, multiply by the number of workers and divide by 4. - Add both. We have available details on the program, feedback from the management and the CASAS pre and post assessment information.
