Leonard, Here are two things that may be useful to you: 1. South Seattle Community Colleges has a very large and diverse array of programs that support ESL, VESL (vocational English as a second language), ABE and GED learners. They contend that what makes the program particularly distinctive - and effective - is the extent to which they integrate career training - and people's development of soft skills (effective workplace behaviors) into their academic (literacy) offerings to clients. If you would like contact information at that school, I'd be pleased to provide it. 2. Are behavioral skills a matter of concern within Literacy Services and this pilot? The best way and place to develop these behaviors is through their integration into literacy or other academic or career courses. Learning Resources is in the soft skills assessment business; our program that focuses on the skills required by employers of people seeking entry-level or first jobs are listed here: Workforce <BLOCKED::http://www.learning-resources.com/aprogram_10.cfm> Readiness Skills. Providing employers with people who have documented their literacy levels - and their effective workplace behaviors - would provide your graduates with a competitive advantage. Please let me know if you'd like additional information about either of the above topics. Al Lesure Alan B. Lesure, President Learning Resources, Inc. 1117 E. I am certainly glad to see that this is a discussion that has been on the minds of many of you on the list serve but, I would love to know if anyone on the list has a model that is currently working that they would be willing to share with me as I begin to work on this issue. If there is such a document of even bulleted pointers about implementation, service models, employer buy-in and investment, curriculum development, etc that would be most appreciated.
