Leonard, I can refer you to a few resources available to you online. They
represent the Texas perspective as well as some of the work I've done in
other states. Just good foundation information that might prove useful:

http://www-tcall.tamu.edu <http://www-tcall.tamu.edu/> is maintained by our
state clearinghouse for Adult Education. If you click on workforce
partnerships, you can access

* SHOP TALK, a series of short articles on workforce education issues;

* Charting A Course: Responding to the Industry-Related Instructional
Needs of the Limited English Proficient.

* Another resource accessible from this same website will link you to
TWC Workforce Literacy; under research you will find a field guide entitled
Planning Literacy and Language Services for Texas' Limited English
Proficient Worker: The Devil is in the Details.

http://cls.coe.utk.edu/curriculum/esol_workplace.html. The University of
Tennesee's Center for Literacy Studies also has its Tennessee ESOL in the
Workplace training materials on line.

Also, Joan Friedenberg put out a great little "primer" a few years ago
entitled, Workplace ESL: A Guide to Program Planning and Implementation.
Hard to find and no intent to reprint. Excellent desk reference.

Hope these help! Barbara Tondre-El Zorkani

Hi Leonard,

I do a train the trainer workplace ESL certification that has all those
things you mentioned detailed in it. I'd be happy to chat with you to find
out exactly what you are looking for and could forward you those slides from
my PowerPoint presentation. I could also add detailed information about the
slides you are interested in :) I am going out of town Friday morning, but
if you email it to me tomorrow (Thursday) with specific questions and needed
information, I can get you something before I leave.

Hello to All List Members,

I am new to the list and have been charged with writing a pilot proposal to
begin offering Literacy Services, mainly ESL, on site with many of the
employers we currently work with here in NYC. I am certainly glad to see
that this is a discussion that has been on the minds of many of you on the
list serve but, I would love to know if anyone on the list has a model that
is currently working that they would be willing to share with me as I begin
to work on this issue. If there is such a document of even bulleted
pointers about implementation, service models, employer buy-in and
investment, curriculum development, etc that would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Leonard E. Battle
