Hi Judi,
They're not up on the website yet. Here they are as an attachment.

Chris,
When you opened up the http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/ciet/ link, where did
you go from there? I am also interested in cash handling skills/retail
for ESL students, but I couldn't find the lessons that you're referring
to in your e-mail to Melinda.
Thanks!

Wow, Melinda!

These lessons are outstanding. You even hit on the topic of theft with
the
"quick change artist" dialog. I was itemizing a list of skills needed
for
cash handling and I also neglected a significant portion of your
lessons:
PRONUNCIATION. The cash drawer balancing lesson will give a
contextualized
and authentic experience.

I really appreciate these resources - they're immediately useful and
they're
helping me organize my larger plan as well!

Gratefully,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Here are a couple lessons Elizabeth Riker is developing for a Limited
English Profeciency and Hispanic Worker Initiative for the Retail
Industry in New York City, funded by DOL. Classes are underway
already.
The full curriculum will be disseminated as part of the grant but not
until Fall 2007. It is being run on a group of CUNY Campuses:
Manhattan
Borough Community College, New York City Tech, Kingsborough and
LaGuardia Community College. Any feedback you have on these lessons
would be appreciated.

Howdy y'all!

(Just spent some quality time in Dallas avoiding the Denver blizzards
and
the accent is still carrying into my emails.)

This listserv has been a fascinating resource. I'd like to pose my own
question now. Does anyone have any ideas where I might find lessons
related
specifically to developing cash handling skills? Currently I'm looking
into
areas of basic financial literacy and basic math skills, but what
about
ways
to teach people how to "count up" when giving change? Do restaurants
and
retailers do this training individually? Have VESL lessons been
designed for
working a cash register?

Thanks in advance!

"Warmly"

Chris Tombari
