Hello,
Our session about “Addressing the Soft Skills Adults Need”
highlighted the student-centered, problem-solving approach to skill
development described by the EFF standards. We focused on three
standards - Cooperate with Others, Resolve Conflict and Negotiate, and
Solve Problems and Make Decisions - and discussed approaches to teaching
and assessing these skills collaboratively with our adult students.

Attached you will find an example and tools we handed out for one of
these "soft skills":

- The original EFF Standard “Resolve Conflict and Negotiate,” as
well as an adapted version and illustration developed by students
(http://eff.cls.utk.edu/fundamentals/standard_resolve_conflict.htm).
All of the standards are available at
http://eff.cls.utk.edu/toolkit/standards_wheel.htm.

- The classroom example is an abbreviated example from the EFF On-line
Toolkit http://eff.cls.utk.edu/toolkit/example_tension_in_class.html

- Based on the Standard, a simple guide developed to address specific
aspects of the skill process and an assessment that can be used by
learners and instructors to assess how well they used the skill in a
scenario or role play. Both of these documents are from our Preparing
for Work Curriculum which focuses on 10 of the EFF Standards, using the
SCANS task clusters as an organizing framework. For more information
about the curriculum, contact Diane Gardner at dgardner at utk.edu.

opening the attachment, you can request that it be e-mailed to you
individually. Some e-mail clients will not permit an attachment that
is
sent to a large number of people because of the fear of a virus being
included.
