Karen -

My name is Sara Jorgensen and I am an adult education program director
in Boston. For the past year, I have been trying to figure out a way
to prepare students for possible green jobs in the future and make
connections for that purpose. Since there isn't much movement in the
green industry in Massachusetts right now, we have been focusing on
helping our ABE and ESOL students to learn how to talk about green
energy to understand the concept of renewal energy and its various
forms. To that end, this summer our theme is "Green Technology" and
teachers have been introducing related lessons. We hosted a green
technology fair at our center this summer and will be taking students
to visit some green buildings next week.

We think there will be entry level jobs in insulation that might have
some upward mobility but our immediate goal is to successfully
transition our students to the local community college to take one of
3 courses designed to land students jobs in the green sector once the
economy picks up. It is not as easy as it sounds but we think we are
on the right track.

I am not sure if any of this is helpful but it is where we are at in
the nebulous green jobs venture.

Sara
