Jeanne S. Chall, Florence G. Roswell, Mary E. Curtis, John Strucker (2003). Quick Adult Reading Inventory. Elizabethtown, PA: Continental Press, Inc.

The Quick Adult Reading Inventory is an individual assessment of reading. In each of the two Forms, A and B, are graded tests of Word Reading, Vocabulary, and Phonics. A Questionnaire is included in the battery. The QARI can be used as a self-assessment or as in one-on-one administration.

Continental Press has graciously given permission to place the Word Reading sub-test on the ARCS Website giving users the right to copy and distribute the material. The complete QARI containing the forms for the other sub-tests, as well as an Examiner’s Manual can be purchased from the publisher.

In administering the Word Reading Lists for the purpose of entering a learner’s Grade Equivalent (GE) on Match-a-Profile on the ARCS Website, follow the scoring directions given on the forms. GE 10 is the highest level on the QARI test. The lack of GE 11 or 12 will not affect the matching process on the site.

If you have any questions about using this test, send a Feedback from the site: www.ncsall.net and click on Assessment Strategies and Reading Profiles. Look for Feedback on the top banner that you can find across all but the Home page.
